About 108 lives Australia
The 108 lives Project was born in 2011 out of New York, with a small band of volunteers travelling to Nepal. Evan Shapiro from Australia joined this trip out of interest and support of close friend and founder of 108 lives, Hector Marcel. Their aim was to prepare the ground for a larger group of volunteers to return in 2012 to help people living in the streets with food, shelter, health and education.
Inspired by photos and stories from this Nepal trip, Bev Carter began to work with Evan towards the planned return trip. It was quickly realised that in order to be an effective Australian fundraiser 108 lives Australia needed official status. Bev has taken the inspiration she initially felt and channeled it through her conversations and interactions, to the point where 108 lives Australia has moved from an idea to a reality.
Bev has fostered partnerships that continue to grow, supporting the developing project work of 108 lives Australia, placing it at the forefront of the organisation’s international development with 108 lives organisations forming in Cambodia & Argentina.
With newest team member Jo Grant, 108 lives Australia continues to expand. Another trip to Nepal early 2013 saw 108 lives connecting and collaborating with new groups and causes in Nepal.
While heading up a later 2013 trip, 108 lives Australia hope to join forces once again with team members from the 108 lives Project New York in providing improvements to local village school in remote Rautahat.
